The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was a leader of a nation and the greatest of worshipers. Yet he still managed to spend quality time with his wives and show them such sweet love, romance and compassion.
1. One time Āisha (رضي الله عنها) asked the Prophet ﷺ, “how much do you love me?” The Prophet ﷺ answered, “Like a strong binding knot.” Later as time went by, Āisha (رضي الله عنها) would occasionally ask the Messenger ﷺ, “How is that knot?” The Prophet ﷺ answered, “As strong as the first day.”
2. Even during her menses, the Prophet ﷺ while in I’tikaf would lean back into his house from the masjid and place his head on Āisha’s (رضي الله عنها) lap. She would oil and comb his (ﷺ) hair.
3. When a Sahabi asked the Prophet ﷺ who he (ﷺ) loved the most, he (ﷺ) answered, “Aisha.” When the Sahabi tried to elicit the answer he was looking for, he asked him again, “Who from the men?” Again, the Prophet (ﷺ) answered still with reference to his wife and said, “Her father.”
4. When Āisha (رضي الله عنها) recalled to the Prophet ﷺ a fable about a couple’s romantic and passionate love that ended in tragic divorce beyond their control, the Prophet ﷺ told her, “My love for you is like theirs except that I am never going to divorce you.”
The Prophet’s (ﷺ) Sunnah is full of romantic instances from which we can take inspiration in our own marital lives.
