An In-Depth Study of The Ahl al-Bayt and their Elevated Status

Summary:

A structured and balanced course examining Sunni and Shi‘i perspectives on the Ahl al-Bayt through doctrinal analysis, history, and primary sources, guided by The People of the House. Participants will develop an informed, principled appreciation of the Ahl al-Bayt. Through a critical assessment of Arabic sources and pivotal historical events, students will deepen their understanding of the Ahl al-Bayt’s elevated status while strengthening a principled, informed love for them grounded in the Sunni tradition.

Learning Objectives:
  • Explore & increase our understanding about the Family of the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Discuss who are included in the Prophet’s family, what is their standing in Islam, and address key misconceptions regarding them

Course Details

This course offers a comprehensive and measured study of the Sunni and Shi‘i approaches to the Ahl al-Bayt, engaging with doctrinal foundations, historical trajectories, and key textual evidence. Delivered in an interactive format, participants will have opportunities to explore supplementary research, engage with additional materials, and continue thoughtful discussion beyond the classroom to developing deeper reflection and sustained learning.

Students will also receive a complimentary digital copy of the instructor’s book as part of the course materials.

Shaykh Sarfraz Mohammed

Shaykh specialised in legal judgement (ifta) at Darul Ulum Karachi and holds a postgraduate degree from Loughborough University. He is also the author of “Halal Ghiza Jadid Tibb awr Science” (2015), a compendium of contemporary fatwas related to halal food and modern medicine. He teaches hadith at al-Suffa Institute, works for the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) as a Shariah consultant and is a founding member of the Fiqh Council Birmingham.
