The session begins by exploring the significance of Islamic fiqh and the pillars of the Ḥanafī tradition. We will look at Imām Abū Ḥanīfa’s methodology of ijtihād, the contributions of prominent Ḥanafī jurists, and how hypothetical cases were historically used to sharpen juristic reasoning. This foundation helps students understand the framework through which the madhhab approaches legal questions and builds aptitude in deriving rulings.
The second part of the session focuses on how contemporary jurists apply this framework to modern realities. Through selected case studies, we will examine issues such as finance, biomedical ethics, and social matters, comparing classical rulings with modern fatwās. Students will engage in a practical exercise to apply the Ḥanafī methodology themselves, gaining insight into how the madhhab continues to provide coherent guidance for today’s challenges.
