It is extremely sad seeing young people connected to sacred knowledge wasting their time, as well as the time of others, in endless debates, arguments, polemics and argumentation.

It is even more sad that many of us are fascinated and actually enjoy these debates! These Sufi, Salafi, Ash’ari, Deobandi, Barelwi debates will never end. Why not utilise your precious time and energy in more productive things?! Post something on how to become a good Muslim, offering salat with concentration, having good manners, etc, and a handful of people will be interested. Post something on refuting such and such person, challenging someone for a open debate, condemning this or that group, and everyone is interested! It is really a sad state of affairs. .

For the sake or Allah, value your life and your time. Imam Malik would say, “Argumentation about matters of religion takes away the light of ilm.” I know many scholars who spent their earlier life in such polemical argumentation regretting it in the latter part of their lives. Don’t give encouragement to such people, and avoid showing interest to such debates. May Allah grant us the correct understanding. Ameen.
