Arabic 201: Immersive Speaking

Summary:

Through carefully crafted conversations, this course will help learners of Arabic build their speaking skills to effectively communicate in day to day situations. They will cover select conversations from the renowned Saudi-based curriculum (العربية بين يديك), paying special attention to effective communication and general fluency.

Learning Objectives:
  • Gain confidence and experience in communicating in Arabic on a range of day to day situations.
  • Pick up essential vocabulary and modern style.
  • Get exposure to native pronunciation, accent and intonation.

Course Details

Apply your prior knowledge of Arabic by diving straight into speaking. Through tried-and-tested methods, you will practise conversing on 16 day to day themes that a traveller to the Arab world would encounter. You will pick up vocab through visual aids and lots of practice, and you will have plenty of time to revise using professional audio recordings. By the end of the 16 sessions, you will be confident in communicating with other speakers of Arabic on a wide range of everyday situations. The dialogues will be taken from Level 1 of the popular series Al-ʿArabiyyah Bayna Yadayk.
This intensive programme combines interactive live sessions, visual resources and audio recordings to provide a dynamic and holistic learning experience. The focus is primarily on Modern Standard Arabic, which includes religious vocabulary where appropriate. Daily support is available via an interactive Telegram group, ensuring you have help every step of the way.
 
Requirements:
  • Completion of Arabic 101 (or a similar course covering the essentials of Arabic sentences).
  • Attendance in live sessions is mandatory, as the course is interactive and requires active participation in classroom activities. A recording of the session will not be available.

Desireable:

  • Commitment outside of the classroom to go through supplementary exercises to consolidate one’s learning.

Instructors Biography

Shaykh Shahin-ur Rahman

Author, translator and educator, Shaykh Shahin-ur Rahman graduated in 2014 from Islamic Dawah Academy in Leicester, UK. In 2016, he founded Al-Rahma, a daʿwah organisation in his hometown of Northampton.

In 2021, he completed a master’s degree at the University of Warwick in the philosophy and history of education in the Islamic tradition. With 7 years of experience in curriculum development, the shaykh co-authored Islamic Studies Textbook 8 (Safar Publications, 2021). He also translated Contemplations on Divine Revelations (Turath Publishing – forthcoming). He is also a presenter at IlmFeed and an instructor at Roots Academy and SiblingsOfIlm.
