Poetry Competition

How to enter
• Watch the An Introduction to Poetic Metres webinar
• Compose a poem related to Ramadan or Eid in English (12 lines minimum)
• Upload onto Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #PoetrySOI2021
• Those without social media may submit their entries here.

Entry conditions
• Contestants must be 16 or older, no maximum age limit!
• All poems must be composed in proper metre and rhyme scale (any mainstream metre and rhyme scale is acceptable)
• All poems must be original. Submitter must own rights to the poem
• Previously published poems are not accepted
• All poems must consist of at least 12 lines minimum
• Topics must be related to Ramadan or Eid in some way, even loosely (e.g. revelation of the Qurʾan)
• Multiple entries are allowed, unlimited number of poems per participant
• No entry fees
• If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize with 5 days of being contacted, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner
• All entires must be received by 14th May 2021, 11:59 PM (BST London).


The winner will receive:

• The Noble Qur’an: With meaning and explanatory notes by Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani (Standard Edition) published by Turath Publishing

• Mainstay: A Commentary on Qasida al-Burda (The Poem of the Scarf) by Ibn Ajiba published by Abu Zahra Press
